Leadership
Church schools are vibrant and successful places. Today, the great challenge they face is to appoint leaders who understand how to achieve high standards as Christian leaders. Tomorrow's Leaders Today is a DVD that explores the responsibility of those with oversight of Church schools. It shows innovative work of Headteachers, governors, education officers and members of Diocesan Boards in securing leadership for the future. Copies are available from: www.neonforest.co.uk or www.nationalcollege.org.uk
Leadership in Church Schools
This course is facilitated by the Church of England Dioceses of Durham and Newcastle, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Middlebrough. Funding is provided by the National College. The course includes presentations from outstanding practitioners, a three day placement in school, group work, discussion, time for personal reflection, planning, prayer and celebration. The aims of the course are to enable participants to: develop a strategic direction which stems from the educational mission of the Church; lead a learning community rooted in Christian belief and principles; promote positive attitudes to learning amongst pupils and staff which stem from Christ's vision for humanity; recognise and act upon his/her own potential for growth and that of others; develop a management role influenced by the Gospel message and Church teaching; support Governing Bodies in fulfilling their responsibilities to their Diocese as well as in accordance with national legislation; collaborate with parishes and other Christian organisations as well as the wider educational system; prepare for the application process. Headteachers are approached each year and invited to nominate prospective participants who are aspiring to Deputy/Headship within eighteen months of completion of the course. Please speak to Brian Hedley if you are interested.
